Carbon Emission Footprint Calculation and Case Study of Pre-mixed Concrete

Abstract: Pre-mixed concrete, as the most widely used building material in housing construction and municipal engineering, plays a significant role in the accounting and measurement of carbon emission footprints to achieve the " Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality" goals in the construction field. This study selects a pre-mixed concrete mixing station in Guangzhou as a case study and applies the carbon emission factor method to calculate the carbon emission footprints of pre-mixed concrete with different strength grades in detail. The research covers five stages: raw material production, raw material transportation, device production, operation and concrete transportation, identifying three main types of carbon emissions and 11 specific carbon emission sources. The results show that the carbon emission footprint of concrete products with strength grades ranging from C15 to C60 is between 117.72 kgCO2e/m3 and 286.70 kgCO2e/m3. Among these, the raw material production stage has the highest carbon emission proportion, reaching 78.16%, followed by the transportation stage, with concrete transportation accounting for 13.77% and raw material transportation accounting for 7.49%.This study, based on the calculation method of product carbon footprint, focuses on pre mixed concrete and demonstrates its application through specific cases. It provides a scientific basis for improving carbon footprint data and promoting green and low-carbon development in the building materials industry, and has important reference value for the overall carbon emission accounting of buildings.
