Abstract
Fractal theory, as a mathematical tool for describing complex geometries, has been widely used in concrete durability studies. Nevertheless, a systematic and comprehensive description of it is still lacking. Therefore, this paper aims to summarize the progress of the application of fractal theory in the study of concrete durability, and provide theoretical references and practical guidance for the future study of concrete durability using fractal methods. The article firstly discusses the opportunities of applying fractal theory to the study of concrete durability, and then summarizes the application of fractal analysis in portraying concrete material properties and its deterioration process by introducing the calculation method of fractal dimension. The results show that the fractal dimension is closely related to the key durability indexes of concrete, such as the porosity of concrete, chloride ion diffusion, frost resistance, and resistance to chemical erosion. These findings not only deepen the understanding of the relationship between concrete microstructure and macroscopic properties, but also provide a new quantitative tool for the quantitative assessment of concrete durability, which promotes the development of concrete science.
