Abstract
An object-oriented finite element modeling method for tower crane structures is proposed in this paper to address the issues of tedious modeling, poor model reusability, long design cycle, and high cost in finite element analysis. The method uses Abaqus scripting interface language Python to create tower crane part classes and assembly classes. Firstly, the instantiation of tower crane part classes is used to complete the creation of part geometric models, sets, datum features, element selection, and meshing. Then, the instantiation of tower crane assembly classes is used to complete the assembly of tower crane structure finite element models with different structural forms and configurations, the application of constraint relationships, and the creation of load and boundary condition sets. The results show that this method can be easily used to create finite element models of tower crane structures with different structural forms and configurations.
