Abstract
With the development of urban construction, the number of scenic pedestrian steel bridges spanning lakes has been increasing. The quality control during the construction process of these scenic steel bridges faces many challenges. This paper investigates a case where excessive vertical deformation occurred at the mid-span during the temporary support removal of a pedestrian scenic steel bridge in a park. Through finite element analysis and field testing, the safety of the current structural condition and the residual load of the temporary supports were verified. After the unloading, the deformation at the bridge span exceeded the calculated value by approximately 8 mm. The study indicates that quality control during the construction of steel bridges should fully consider the effects of temperature and ensure effective monitoring throughout the construction process.
