Research Progress on the Investigation of Geological Characteristics in Karst Area

  • This article conducts a series of investigates the geological characteristics of karst areas and summarized the development mechanism of karst. These investigations have certain guiding significance for pile foundation construction in karst area. By studying the topography and geomorphology, stratigraphic lithology, groundwater profile and karst spatial distribution characteristics in different regions, this paper summarizes the karst development mechanism to some extent, and draws the following conclusions:The higher the content of soluble minerals in rocks, the finer the grains. The thicker the rock layers, the greater the solubility is.The direction and intensity of groundwater runoff determine the overall direction and scale of karst conduit development. When the terrain slope and karst groundwater hydraulic slope are small, the karst development mainly extends horizontally. And vice versa, it is mainly vertical infiltration. At the intersection of faults, the degree of rock fragmentation and the degree of karst development are higher. The axis of the fold, the plunging and uplifting ends, the faults or fissures are rich, which is conducive to the development of karst. Most of the karsts in the fold area develop along the trend of fold, and the axial karsts are easier to develop.Synclinal core is more karst developed than the anticlinal core, and the core structure is more developed than the two wings.
