Study on the Design and Construction Technology of UHPC Translucent Concrete Curtain Walls

  • To investigate the application effects of UHPC translucent concrete curtain walls, this study focuses on the main hall project of Lingnan Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Finite element analysis software was employed to verify the mechanical performance of curtain wall panels and supporting frameworks under combined loads including dead load, wind load, and seismic action. Based on calculated nodal loads, comprehensive verifications were conducted for mechanical anchors and concrete cones regarding their tensile resistance, shear resistance, and combined tensile-shear performance. Critical challenges in construction were systematically analyzed. Results demonstrate that: The designed 30 mm-thick UHPC translucent concrete panels exhibited maximum deformation and stress of 0.585 mm and 6.8 N/mm2 respectively, both below specified limits of 5 mm and 7.45 N/mm2. The maximum deflection of supporting frameworks reached 14.1 mm, within the permissible 21.6 mm threshold. Mechanical anchors demonstrated a tensile capacity of 11 kN while concrete cone failure showed tensile resistance of 29.4 kN. Both embedded components and concrete exhibited satisfactory failure capacities under combined tensile-shear loading that complied with code requirements. Through the coordination of a car crane and a high-altitude vehicle, operators use manual hoists to make fine adjustments to meet the installation requirements of UHPC transparent concrete curtain walls. This research result can provide reference for the promotion and use of UHPC transparent concrete curtain walls.
