A Two-dimensional Planar Technique for Three-dimensional Surfaces

  • With the continuous development of computer technology, the building of shaped forms has become a real-world visualization of the aesthetic inspiration for architects. Three-dimensional surfaces are an integral part of shaped architectural forms, however, non-standard components produced according to curvature of the surface are often difficult to locate and have large deviations in installation dimensions. As to this problem, A two-dimensional planar technique for three-dimensional surfaces is under study, and the two-dimensional unit plate model generated by this method for accurate positioning and size calculation can guide the construction, avoiding the waste of engineering materials. The validation results show that two types of two-dimensional planar unit plates with and without seams are generated by connecting 3 or 4 cell corner points after controlling the number of divisions by using Grasshopper in project case, which verifies that this method has good application feasibility. Meanwhile, the problems in the application of this method are analyzed and solutions are given, which provides a technical idea for two-dimensional planar technique for three-dimensional surfaces.
