Application of Shield Tunneling Technology in Reinforcement Area of Bagged Sand Wells on Highways

  • With the rapid development of our country's economy and the increasing pressure of urban traffic, a large number of subway tunnels have been constructed crossing highways. Due to the constraints of terrain and geological conditions, tunneling beneath existing highways has become a common practice. However, the thin cover layer above the tunnel and the poor stability of the roadbed fill materials can easily lead to significant deformation and even instability, affecting the safety of tunnel construction and highway operation. Therefore, effective engineering measures must be implemented to minimize the impact of tunnel construction on the roadbed. This article examines the Guangzhou Metro Line 3 East Extension Project, specifically the synchronous construction between Jinguang Avenue Station and Haibang Station. By analyzing common practices at home and abroad, a construction technology for shield tunneling through the baggage sand well reinforced area of highways has been established. This technology ensures efficient, rapid, and safe construction of shield tunneling within the highway roadbed, ensuring uninterrupted safe construction and operation of highways, and keeping settlement within acceptable limits. The practical results show that using this technology for construction can effectively control costs and provide reference for other similar engineering projects.
