  • For a long time, some penetration welds have been classified as Level III welds, which generally do not require internal quality testing, but only surface quality or penetration measurements. However, with the continuous emergence of various large-scale steel structure buildings, the quality requirements for partial penetration welds have become increasingly high, especially in scenarios with special usage conditions, such as dynamic load, load-bearing, corrosion resistance, high and low temperatures, etc. The quality inspection of partial penetration welds has also attracted more and more attention, Therefore, some owners not only require the penetration depth of partial penetration welds to meet the design requirements, but also do not allow excessive defects in the penetration area of partial penetration welds. In order to ensure the quality of the penetration area of partial penetration welds, phased array ultrasound was used in this article to detect the internal quality of partial penetration welds. A suitable model was established within the phased array detector, and customized sensitivity verification test blocks and penetration height reference test blocks were used to compare and inspect the sensitivity verification test blocks and penetration height reference test blocks, Phased array ultrasound can be used to detect the penetration depth of partially penetrated welds and internal defects in the penetration area. The method proposed in this article can be used to conveniently detect the internal quality of partially penetrated welds and control the quality of partially penetrated welds.
